A documentary series showcasing the work of London’s Major Trauma Network, including the trauma team at King’s College Hospital, is back on screens starting today. “Emergency” returns for its third series, highlighting real-life stories of seriously injured patients and the dedicated clinical teams who provide life-saving care.

The series delves into the crucial interventions involved in treating trauma patients, from the initial response by emergency teams to the efforts of A&E staff, surgical specialists, critical care professionals, and rehabilitation therapists.

Consultant trauma and orthopedic surgeon, Ibraheim El-Daly, featured in the documentary, emphasizes the importance of the NHS in delivering expert, around-the-clock care to those in need. He praises London’s Major Trauma Network for its unique approach in bringing together various clinical specialties to ensure the best possible outcomes for critically ill patients.

Dr. Malcolm Tunnicliff, clinical director for major trauma at King’s College Hospital, highlights the hospital’s role in treating some of the most severely injured patients in the southeast of England. The hospital’s specialized team is equipped to handle a range of traumatic injuries, from accidents to assaults, providing comprehensive care 24/7.

London was the first region in the UK to establish a regional major trauma system in 2010, setting a high standard for trauma care for its large population. The Major Trauma Network, consisting of 39 hospitals and led by Major Trauma Centres like King’s College Hospital, has earned a global reputation for its success in improving survival rates for severely injured patients.

In addition to King’s College Hospital, other facilities like St Mary’s Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, and St George’s Hospital play crucial roles in the Major Trauma Network, along with 35 Major Trauma Units across the region. The network also includes ambulance services like the London Ambulance Service and air ambulance services such as London’s Air Ambulance, both featured in the series.

“Emergency” series 3 will air every evening on Channel 4 at 9 pm from Monday to Thursday and will be available for streaming on All4. Viewers can expect to witness the dedication and expertise of healthcare professionals as they work tirelessly to save lives and promote recovery in the face of traumatic injuries.
